No good appealing to an empty room, Shed. It's like drinking from an empty glass. What you need to do is to register for Tykestalk and tell them all to come here. Give them an incentive. Tell them that the first of them to register gets a free ticket for an Ian MacMillan gig. On second thoughts maybe not...

Personally, I think Ian McMillan is a witty, charming, articulate and extremely educated guy. Mind you, then again, I think think that Fred Elliot is anorexic.

Be fair, his column in the Chronicle is the first thing I read. Where else would you find such flair, such rhythm, such poetic and imaginative prose, such literary acumen? The man's a credit to his town and we should all be proud of him.

Sorry, Shed, I have to take issue with you on that one. Michael Parkinson rarely misses the chance to ridicule Barnsley, perhaps trying to raise a smile and so divert attention from his fatigue-inducing mumblings with actors from the 30s and 40s. This is a far cry from Michael Palin, Sean Bean, Nick Hanthingy, Gary Linacre, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Frank Skinner, Jasper Carrot and countless others, all of whom speak fondly of the team they support. Ian Macmillan, to be fair, publicly demonstrates his allegiance to Barnsley. The trouble is that he comes over as someone who perfectly fits the northern stereotype, at least the way in which southerners perceive it. He is embarrassing and untalented, yet has a remarkably high opinion of himself. I'm not sure what you mean by his having 'made something of himself'. Darren Gough is much too ashamed of his home town and its football club to give it a mention in TV interviews, preferring instead to associate himself with Leeds or Spurs depending on what mood he's in. thingyie Bird has had a splendid career in cricket and shown himself to be an umpire of the highest calibre. Yet he too has never given an interview in which he has mentioned his home town, never mind its football club (little wonder he received a chorus of boos from the Ponty Enders when Peter Doyle unaccountably gave him that award). Nor did he put his hand in his pocket when Barnsley were on the brink of extinction and badly in need of funds. Sorry, Shed, but as far as I can see, our so-called celebrities have no wish to be associated with Barnsley FC and either ignore them or ridicule them to get a cheap laugh and so further their careers.

Incidentally, that was supposed to read Nick Han****, the host of 'They think it's all over', and not Nick Hanthingy. Work out for yourself why it was censored.
